SAAHO PRODUCER SHYAM GRILLED On The Reviews, Response And Cost Recovery
Has Saaho really lived up to expectations? Different people have different answers. The time was right to talk to those associated with the making of the film. Read on
It's been 3 days that Saaho hit theatres. While the movie has been received well at the ticket windows, there is no denying that a large number of people have strongly felt that much more was expected from it. There has been a sense of disappointment and expressions of bewilderment in people after they saw the movie.
If this is going to be questioned on how then the box-office collections have been good, let me tell you that the spillover of the Baahubali craze could be one of the reasons that has contributed to it. Fair enough if its ardent fans disagree to the above POV, it was only fair to ask the film's director/producer to know what's the mood in their camp.
Saaho stars Prabhas, Shraddha Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, Chunky Pandey, Mandira Bedi and Tinu Anand in main roles,
We had an objective chat with Shyam of UV Creations, yesterday evening.
Here is the conversation:
What's going through the minds of those at UV Creations? Reviews were not encouraging. Were the expectations too high after Baahubali?
I wouldn't like to elaborate on that. The film is out. It is for the audience to judge now. Everyone has his/her own perspective. What could have been and what it rather is, is all in retrospect. Filhaal toh jo hai, woh hai.
But the film ended up being a very costly one? Saturday collections have shown only a marginal rise over Sunday's.
I think the actual producers, Vamsi Krishna Reddy and Pramod Uppalapati, would be better off to talk on this. They are not in the country at the moment.
But you belong to UV Creations...
Yes but, what we expected and what we didn't expect, doesn't matter now. Obviously if anybody makes a film, he would expect higher than what he gets.
Better you mean?
Yeah. And we have no issues of all that has come our way.
What you are implying is that it could have been better but it's not a big deal as it is not some disaster...
Definitely it's not a disaster. I don't know why people are trying to say it's a disaster. We have had two good days in Friday and Saturday. Sunday should be still more.
I think what put off some people is that the film terribly confused them- abhi yeh chor hai, abhi yeh police hai... nahin abhi ye phir se chor hai
That's the story format. Audience has a right to say what they feel. Saaho is a different kind of commercial film. What one needs to understand here is that Saaho needs thought and thinking, it's not a straightforward, linear film. Maybe people didn't expect that they would need to think so much in Saaho.
But you're happy with the writing, music, etc?
That's something that only the director Sujeeth can tell you.
But as a producer who puts in money, you must be having a take.
Again that needs to be answered by Vamsi and Pramod.
Is recovery of a product, which was originally planned for 150 cr but turned out to cost 350 cr, going to be easy?
This is speculation. You guys come out with a figure of 150 cr, then say 350 cr...
Nope. Those numbers came from Prabhas. He said (IN SPOTBOYE.COM INTERVIEW WHICH YOU MUST SEE ABOVE) that 150 cr became 350 cr. So clearly, it went over-budget...
Well then, I think the producers must have done their math to recover the expenditure.
